The Code of Ethics for Nurses With Interpretative Statements was developed to guide nurses in ethical decision making and analysis.  

Nurses are expected to adhere to and embrace the standards of these provisions which include our values, morals, and ideals of the nursing profession (ANA, 2015).

This Code of Ethics outlines the very essence of what it means to be a nurse.

This module will introduce you to the nine provisions outlined in the Code of Ethics for Nurses.

Step Two:  The paper

1. You will have one written assignment for this module using APA format student paper writing.

Guidelines:

1. Include a title page.
2. Include an introduction.
   1. An abstract is not       required. 
3. Use each provision as a      Level 1 heading
   1. Each provision should have at least 2 well constructed paragraphs.
   2. A paragraph is comprised of at least 3 well constructed sentences.
   3. You may use first person and discuss what the provision means to you (or perhaps a personal experience relating to the provision).
4. The body of the paper should be at least 8 pages and not exceed 9-10 pages
   1. This excludes the title page and the reference page.
   2. Include a summary or conclusion at the end of your paper.
5. This assignment will be submitted to TurnitIn and be less than 26% similarity score.
6. Spelling and grammar are important.
   1. Use the editor feature in Word to correct most issues. 
7. This paper must be in APA format. 

I find the use of microscopes fascinating. It still blows my mind that before the microscope was invented looking at cells and all their components was never a thing! The use of the microscope opened so many doors in medicine, it really is incredible. A specific scenario where I would require the use of a microscope would be if I were wanting to identify certain toxins that may be responsible for causing autoimmune diseases such as Lupus. The type of light microscope that is needed in this scenario uses fluorescent-labeled antibodies to detect certain bacteria, viruses, or toxins. It uses specific staining techniques to identify distribution of proteins or other molecules. Fluorescent microscopes were first invented in between 1911 and 1913 by two German physicists Heimstaedt and Lehmann.

The second microscope I would use is a confocal microscope. A confocal microscope offers high-quality images that are relatively easy to obtain from specimens, which makes it one of the more popular microscopes. However, this specific type of microscope can increase cell and tissue death due to the high- intensity laser. This may cause people to opt out of using the Confocal microscope if they are dealing with certain tissues or cells that are more sensitive.

 In my Week 1 discussion post, I talked about my concerns with nursing wages and burnout becoming more prominent. Throughout the semester, I have been able to deepen my understanding of these topics. I completed my article review on nursing burnout and through my research, I found that burnout has been gradually getting worse throughout the years. The number seems to be rising more than before and the lack of bedside nurses is climbing as well. This also causes a high nurse turnover and more dissatisfaction over time. Many hospitals are now turning to residency programs to have less nurse turnover as new graduates are required to sign a residency contract if they would like to work in that setting. This allows for less turnover and longer training times at the cost of flexibility and appropriate wages. At least in my case, I was getting paid more at my previous job (SNF) than I was starting at the hospital through the residency even though my previous job offered me less than the median salary for SNF nurses. I also believe that the cost of living in South Florida has gone up exponentially over the past few years and regardless of what “middle-class” job you have, money will be very tight for young adults trying to start to live independently without government support. Overall, I hope to see a change over the next few years for those who love the nursing practice as we are responsible for a significant amount of care provided in the healthcare setting and should be respected as so. 

Week 4 – Assignment: Analyze Quality Performance

Improvement requires the ability to effectively analyze data. While extensive knowledge in using statistical analysis tools is desirable, health administrators adept at constructing charts and analyzing the organizational data as compared to established benchmarks yields valuable information.

For your assignment this week, you will prepare an Analysis Report paper. Begin your assignment with the following steps:

1.Read the case study published by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) featuring Tampa General Hospital's use of the AHRQ tools to improve quality measures. The link to the Tampa General Hospital's case study is found in your Weekly Resources.

 After reading the Tampa General Hospital case study, you will access the
Hospital Compare website link found in your Weekly Resources. At this site, you will insert Tampa, Florida into the location box, select Hospital as the type of facility, and insert Tampa General Hospital into the name box. Once the webpage for Tampa General Hospital is accessed, click on
Patient Survey Ratings. Here you will find the hospital's patient satisfaction ratings along with the state and national ratings in each category.

 With these data, you will use an Excel spreadsheet to insert the type of indicator (i.e.,
Patients who reports their nurses always communicated well and the observed score for Tampa General Hospital as well as the average Florida and National scores provided). Repeat this process to include all 10 statements of patient satisfaction.

Once your spreadsheet data is complete, create a bar graph by clicking on Insert in the top header and selecting the bar graph to visually display the comparison of Tampa General Hospital's scores to the state and national average scores. Instead of using Excel, you may alternately create a Table in Microsoft Word using the same data as described above placed in a table. Once the table is complete, click Insert from the ribbon at the top of the page, and then click Chart. From here, select Bar chart and use the Clustered Bar Chart style. For either method, make sure all three data sources are depicted in the chart. An example of how to set up your table and the resulting bar graph that is both required in your paper are shown. Keep in mind the information you retrieve is a single data set and does not represent performance over time, but rather represents a snapshot of organizational performance as compared to external standards.

 Next, you will click on
Quality in the Tampa General Hospital's website header and scroll down to
Complications and Deaths. Once the section expands, scroll down to
Infections. In the
Infection's section, you will find the quality score for the topic in the case study regarding catheter-associated urinary catheter infections (CAUTI). Record the score for Tampa General Hospital for this measure and note the national benchmark score of 1. You will analyze this score as it compares to the national score and its relevance to the case study.

 Lastly, you will prepare your Analysis Report paper that contains an introductory section, the body of your report containing your analysis of Tamps General Hospital's patient satisfaction ratings and the comparison of the ratings to the state and national scores, and your analysis of the CAUTI infection rate compared to the national rate. You will also include a summary section in your paper. You will insert your Clustered Bar graph (see example) with the 10 statements and scores as a Figure into your discussion and analysis of the scores. The table you created (see example) to display the 10 statements and the hospital, state, and national scores will be in an appendix to your report. Be sure to check APA guidelines for using an appendix in a report, how to label figures and tables.
