Nursing week 5 abstract assignment

Week 5 Abstract, Significance, and Summary

This week, you will submit the final portions of your paper for review. Please make sure to review all of your instructor's feedback and prepare your research for final submission in week 7.

Abstract

The abstract is generally used as a searchable, comprehensive overview of your research. When online databases search research, they pull keywords from the abstract. Compose the abstract for your research project. Your abstract should be one page in length, and include the following:

· Describe the research problem and why it is important.

· Identify the purpose of the study.

· State the theoretical foundations and/or conceptual frameworks, as appropriate.

· Summarize the key research question(s).

· Describe, concisely, the overall research design, methods, and data analysis procedures.

· Conclude with a statement on the implications for positive social or institutional change.

Your abstract must be a clear and concise overview of your research that would be easily searchable if you were to publish in a journal.

Significance and Summary

In 3–4 pages, summarize your study. Provide a summation of evidence (referencing your literature) that the problem is current, relevant, and significant to the discipline. Reiterate the gap in the literature and how your project contributes to social or organizational change in nursing and nursing education.

Within your summary, state the significance of your research by identifying potential contributions of the study that advance knowledge in the discipline. This is an elaboration of what the problem addresses. Provide a strong “take home” message that captures the key essence of your research.

Lastly, describe recommendations for further research that are grounded in the strengths and limitations of the current research as well as the literature you reviewed. Ensure recommendations do not exceed the research boundaries.

Review the rubric for grading criteria.

Insomnia
31-year-old Male

76-year-old Iranian Male

BACKGROUND

This week, we examine a 31-year-old male who presents to the office with a chief complaint of insomnia.

SUBJECTIVE

Patient is a 31-year-old male. He states that his insomnia has gotten progressively worse over the past 6 months. Per the patient, he has never been a “great sleeper” but is now having difficulty both falling asleep and staying asleep at night. The problem began approximately 6 months ago after the sudden loss of his fiancé. The patient states this is affecting his ability to perform his job, which is a forklift operator at a local chemical company. The patient states he has used diphenhydramine in the past to sleep but does not like the way it makes him feel the morning after. He states he has fallen asleep on the job due to lack of sleep from the night before. The patient's medical record from his previous physician states that he has a history of opiate abuse, which began after he broke his ankle in a skiing accident and was prescribed hydrocodone/apap (acetaminophen) for acute pain management. The patient has not received a prescription for an opiate analgesic in 4 years. The patient states recently he has been using alcohol to help him fall asleep, approximately four beers prior to bed.

MENTAL STATUS EXAM

The patient is alert and oriented to person, place, time, event. He makes good eye contact and is dressed appropriately for time of year. He denies auditory/visual hallucinations. Judgement, insight, and reality contact are all intact. Patient denies suicidal/homicidal ideation, and is future oriented.

Decision Point One

Select what you should do:

Zolpidem: 10 mg daily at bedtime

Trazodone 50 mg po at bedtime

Hydroxyzine: 50 mg daily at bedtime

Examine
Case Study: Pharmacologic Approaches to the Treatment of Insomnia in a Younger Adult. You will be asked to make three decisions concerning the medication to prescribe to this patient. Be sure to consider factors that might impact the patient’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes.

At each decision point, you should evaluate all options before selecting your decision and moving throughout the exercise. Before you make your decision, make sure that you have researched each option and that you evaluate the decision that you will select. Be sure to research each option using the primary literature.

Original Work, No Plagiarism, Cite and Reference

Mary admires the NIH-funded work of her postdoctoral advisor, Henryk, who pioneers research on alternative treatments for fever due to infectious diseases. Mary is one of many co-workers who has assisted Henryk in compiling the most comprehensive database ever assembled, tracking many different infectious agents, species of animals, and different interventions and their outcomes. Henryk’s interpretation of this rich dataset suggests that some “alternative medicines” are highly effective in certain species, but have no therapeutic value in others. He is completing his analysis and interpretation, and is preparing a manuscript for submission. Mary will be a co-author because of her part in collecting data for the study.

Mary is preparing to seek an Assistant Professor position and wants to build on her postdoctoral work.  She asks Henryk for permission to use the dataset to develop her own project. However, she plans to use a different methodology for analysis and interpretation of the dataset to address a different aspect of the outcomes of treatment. At that point, she will develop a career development proposal to submit to the NIH.

Henryk is unwilling to share the entire dataset prior to publishing his interpretation of these data. However, Mary has access to the database as part of her current project, and therefore she decides that it is ethical for her to look more closely at the data. Mary spends quite a lot of time looking at the data and Henryk’s analysis, and realizes that he has excluded specific datapoints that impact his interpretation. Henryk’s draft manuscript carefully justifies the exclusion of these data in the methods section so that there is no issue with data falsification.

Mary realizes that if she includes these datapoints, an entirely new understanding of therapies to treat fever could emerge. Mary is excited about her impending grant proposal, but is concerned about how to broach the discussion of her use of the data with Henryk.

Discussion Questions

1. Must Henryk share his database with Mary before publication? After publication? Must he share it with others, outside his lab, and if so, when?

2. Who owns the database at this point: Henryk? The institution? NIH? The public?

3. Why is sharing a dataset beneficial to the person who collected it? How is it potentially risky?

4. Is Henryk obligated to document how datapoints were included or excluded in the methods section of his paper?

Hello class,

I chose interface to discuss. The interface in the electronic medical record system is truly remarkable. When the monitor displaying vital signs and other patient data seamlessly transfers that information to the patient's chart on the computer without the need for manual data entry, it significantly streamlines our workflow. As a nurse, you simply click to confirm that the vital signs are accurate while entering them, saving you a significant amount of time. The advantages of using an interface have proven to be incredibly beneficial in my daily nursing duties.

Introduction to Primary care

Are you familiar with the current clinical practice guidelines for the investigation of a suspected condition such as chest pain?

Nursing Lab Assignment: Differential Diagnosis for Skin Conditions

  • Choose one skin condition graphic (identify by number in your Chief Complaint) to document your assignment in the SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan) note format rather than the traditional narrative style. Refer to Chapter 2 of the Sullivan text and the Comprehensive SOAP Template in this week’s Learning Resources for guidance. Remember that not all comprehensive SOAP data are included in every patient case.
  • Use clinical terminologies to explain the physical characteristics featured in the graphic. Formulate a differential diagnosis of five possible conditions for the skin graphic that you chose. Determine which is most likely to be the correct diagnosis and explain your reasoning using at least three different references, one reference from current evidence-based literature from your search and two different references from this week’s Learning Resources.

Library Research 300 words Nursing

Due 9/10      10 am EST

In this unit you learned about the evolution of evidence-based practice and strategies to implement evidence-based practice. You were also provided with an introduction to quantitative and qualitative research designs.

An important step in the review of literature is the ability to identify the type of research that you are reviewing.

For this assignment, you will continue to consider your problem/topic of interest (HEALTH EQUITY). Using the HU Library, search for an article that is related to your chosen problem/topic.

Review the article and identify the type of research design (quantitative, qualitative, mixed).

  1. Provide the APA formatted reference for a full-text primary research article. The article must be peer-reviewed from the last 5 years.
  2. Identify the type of research design.
  3. What factors/information did you use from the article to determine the type of research?
