Week 3 – Assignment: Individualize the Role of Stakeholders' Contribution to Healthcare Quality Performance Measures

As a leader in the healthcare field, the assurance of delivering quality health care will remain an important aspect of your work. To understand the organization's performance and its impact on clinical quality and financial stability, in this week's assignment, you will examine and interpret performance measures using the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey results as they relate to patient satisfaction and promote stakeholder confidence in the organization.

There are multiple factors that contribute to healthcare quality and financial stability including the actions of key healthcare stakeholders. Begin your assignment by taking the following steps: 

1. Download the table below from your Weekly Resources to draft the contribution each stakeholder has in healthcare quality and the financial impact on the organization through your research. In the table, write a synopsis of 150-250 words for each stakeholder as it relates to their role. Remember Deming's words that quality is the responsibility of everyone. Be sure to include in your discussion the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient satisfaction survey when you are completing your table.    

2. Once you have completed your table, you will use either
Kaltura Capture to create a videotaped PowerPoint presentation or create a voice-over PowerPoint presentation (with speaker notes)  using the information contained in your table. Each stakeholder will be on a separate slide and your 150-250 synopsis on each stakeholder from your table will be placed in the Speaker Notes on each slide. If you do not wish to be video-taped, you may use the audio recorder in the PowerPoint program instead of
Kaltura Capture.

Your role in your PowerPoint presentation is that of a hospital health administrator who is briefing your hospital board of trustees on the contribution of each stakeholder in assuring quality measures and financial stability in your hospital.

Nurse-scholars have a significant obligation to their community as well. Their work must have academic and professional integrity. Their efforts are designed to add to the body of knowledge, advance the profession, and ultimately help in the care of patients. Work that lacks integrity is subject to erode quickly or worse.

Fortunately, there are strategies and tools that can help ensure integrity in academic and professional work. This Assignment asks you to consider these tools and how you might apply them to your own work.

In this Assignment you will continue developing your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan by appending the original document you began in the previous assignment.

To Prepare:

· Reflect on the strategies presented in the Resources for this Module in support of academic style, integrity, and scholarly ethics.

· Reflect on the connection between academic and professional integrity.

The Assignment:

Part 2, Section 1: Writing Sample: The Connection Between Academic and Professional Integrity

Using the Academic and Professional Success Development Template you began in Module 1, write a 2- to 3-paragraph analysis that includes the following:

· Explanation for the relationship between academic integrity and writing

· Explanation for the relationship between professional practices and scholarly ethics

· Cite at least two resources that support your arguments, being sure to use proper APA formatting.

· Use Grammarly and Turnitin to improve the product.

· Explain how Grammarly, Turnitin, and paraphrasing contributes to academic integrity.

Part 2, Section 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work

Expand on your thoughts from Section 1 by identifying and describing strategies you intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of your:

1. academic work as a student of the MSN program and 

2. professional work as a nurse throughout your career. Include a review of resources and approaches you propose to use as a student and a professional.

Telemedicine not only enhances patient convenience but also decreases unnecessary emergency room visits, contributing to cost reduction. In my experience, I have witnessed nurses facilitating virtual visits for patients in rural areas, improving their access to healthcare services.  Nurses witness firsthand the impact of high prescription drug prices on patients’ health outcomes. They advocate for fair drug pricing policies that ensure affordable access to necessary medications. By engaging in initiatives like the Nurses Who Vaccinate campaign, nurses bring attention to the importance of reasonable drug pricing in promoting public health and reducing the financial burden on patients. Nurse have the clinical knowledge, patient trust, and advocacy skills necessary to drive healthcare reform. Their involvement in COVID vaccination mandates, telemedicine, and prescription drug pricing advocacy aligns with their commitment to improving patient care, public health, and cost-effectiveness in the healthcare system.  

2. Nurses indeed hold a pivotal role in reforming healthcare, contributing to a healthier public and cost reduction. Firstly, in the context of COVID vaccination mandates, nurses play an essential role as advocates for public health. They educate individuals on the importance of vaccination, dispel myths and misinformation, and administer vaccines efficiently. Their presence in vaccination clinics fosters trust and encourages reluctant individuals to receive the vaccine. Furthermore, nurses can also assess and address vaccine-related adverse events, contributing to the safety and effectiveness of vaccination campaigns.

Secondly, in the realm of telemedicine, nurses are instrumental in ensuring its successful implementation. They can serve as telehealth coordinators, facilitating remote patient consultations and monitoring. This reduces the burden on healthcare facilities, enhances access to care in underserved areas, and can potentially lower healthcare costs by preventing hospital readmissions through continuous monitoring of chronic conditions.

Lastly, nurses are advocates for addressing exorbitant prescription drug pricing. They witness firsthand the financial hardships patients face due to high drug costs and can engage in initiatives to promote transparency, cost-effective alternatives, and policy changes to curb pharmaceutical price gouging.

In my own nursing practice, I’ve seen how nurses can be effective advocates in these areas, collaborating with healthcare teams and policymakers to drive positive change. Their expertise and patient-centered approach uniquely position them to champion healthcare reform initiatives that benefit the public while optimizing healthcare costs.
