Preparing the Discussion

· Discussions are designed to promote dialogue between faculty and students, and students and their peers. In discussions students:

· Demonstrate understanding of concepts for the week

· Integrate outside scholarly sources when required

· Engage in meaningful dialogue with classmates and/or instructor

· Express opinions clearly and logically, in a professional manner

· Use the rubric on this page as you compose your answers.

· Best Practices include:

· Participation early in the week is encouraged to stimulate meaningful discussion among classmates and instructor.

· Enter the discussion often during the week to read and learn from posts.

· Select different classmates for your reply each week.

Discussion Question

Distractions are everywhere. They may include cellphones, multiple alarms sounding, overhead paging, monitors beeping, and various interruptions that disrupt your clinical practice.

Give an example of an ethical or legal issue that may arise if a patient has a poor outcome or sentinel event because of a distraction such as alarm fatigue. What does evidence reveal about alarm fatigue and distractions in healthcare when it comes to patient safety?

discussion 4 psycho

Analyze and apply critical thinking skills in the psychopathology of mental health patients and provide treatment and health promotion while applying evidence-based research.Scenario:

Kel is a 42-year-old certified public accountant (CPA) who dreams each year that she will board a cruise ship the day after Tax Day and go somewhere, anywhere, except Portsmouth, Virginia. Each year the dream, like the ocean, ebbs and flows, but this year she is not even going to think about such a “ridiculous idea.” In fact, she does not even have the energy to dream; getting out of bed and preparing to go to work is simply too labor intensive.

Each evening Kel retires to bed with a lack of energy to complete her normal tasks such as readying her clothes for work and making a lunch. She lacks the energy to shop in the evening; consequently, she eats mostly crackers and canned soup. She is not hungry, and her scale reflects this. She has lost 15 pounds over the last 2 months. She does not attend to her makeup or clothes; she finds both too taxing. The clothes she selects are drab and not ironed. At work she makes no effort to talk with her co-workers and does not initiate new contacts with clients. The normal work of filing taxes and writing reports, which she used to enjoy, are overwhelming, and she feels too disorganized to complete them. Telephone calls and e-mail messages from friends are ignored. Attendance at work is spotty.

Sue, her sister, becomes alarmed with Kel’s unanswered telephone calls and e-mails. Worried, she decides to visit her sister at home. She finds the apartment unclean and in disarray. Kel is unkempt, disheveled, and looks sad. Her voice is monotone and flat. Kel tells Sue that she feels “sad and hopeless. Nothing is ever going to change. I am a bad person and I can’t even do my work right. Although I sleep for many hours, I am still tired all the time.” Sue is alarmed at the changes in her sister and arranges for Kel to visit a health care worker at the medical clinic.

  • You can expect feedback from the instructor within 48 to 72 hours from the Sunday due date.

ethical arguments

Choose a case from the https://journalofethics.ama-assn.org/cases and take a position. For this assignment you will evaluate the ethical arguments for or against the issue. Identify the potential legal arguments (consider current federal guidelines), indicate any potential professional code conflicts you foresee, and support your position with an explanation of your own ethical/moral foundation.

  • Identify the issue and state your ethical position.
  • How might this scenario play out or impact you in your role as a nurse practitioner?
  • Defend your position with legal, ethical, and professional evidence.
  • As part of your position, propose strategies and solutions for addressing the issues.
  • What other ethical issues does this case bring to light, if any?

Support your position with at least one scholarly source.  Be sure to cite the article you choose, use APA format, and include a title page and reference page.

Modules

Week 1: Barriers to Practice

Preparing the Discussion

Using the readings from this week as well as reliable outside resources to:

1. Identify and describe practice barriers for all four APNs' roles in your state FLORIDA and discuss these barriers on a state and national level. The four roles include the nurse midwife, nurse anesthetist, nurse practitioner, and clinical nurse specialist.

2. Identify forms of competition on the state and national level that interfere with APNs' ability to practice independently.

3. Identify the specific lawmakers by name at the state level (i.e., key members of the state's legislative branch and executive branch of government)

4. Discuss interest groups that exist at the state and national levels that influence APN policy.

5. Discuss methods used to influence change in policy in forms of competition, state legislative and executive branches of government, and interest groups.

6. A scholarly resource must be used for EACH discussion question each week.

Discussion / Module # 2: Critical Theory and Emancipatory Knowing

Think about a recent situation in mental health nursing that you recognized as needing to change in some way and share your reflection with others in the discussion board. Did you take action to change the situation? If not, why not?

If so consider the following:

  1. Who did you connect with in some way to create change?
  2. What were the barriers that you faced in making the change?
  3. What facilitated getting something done?
  4. Looking back, what would you do differently next time around?

Submission Instructions:

  • Your post should be at least 450 words, formatted, and cited in the current APA style with support from (2) two academic sources.
  • FREE of PLAGIARISM (TURNITIN assignment)

Response

respond to the discussion using APA format and two scholarly references

The suggested disease in the case study is protein malnutrition. It is a condition where the patient does not have adequate protein intake. Genetic disorders can cause protein malnutrition. For instance, cystic fibrosis can lead to pancreatic insufficiency, limiting the production of digestive enzymes necessary for protein digestion (Montoro-Huguet et al., 2021). Celiac disease can lead to malabsorption of many nutrients. Hartnup can hinder the absorption of Tryptophan, which is necessary for protein synthesis (Schmidt-Kastner & Kravetz, 2022). However, these genetic factors may not be adequate to cause protein malnutrition. Other health conditions and poor dietary intake may also play an important role.

The patient presents with generalized edema of extremities and abdomen due to low levels of albumin (a plasma protein), which causes the leakage of fluids from the blood vessels into the surrounding tissues due to low osmotic pressure. The physiologic response to the stimulus is an attempt for the body to maintain homeostasis amid the lack of adequate protein. The body breaks down muscle tissues to release amino acids necessary for several cellular processes. The process causes muscle wasting and exacerbates protein deficiency.

Liver cells (hepatocytes) are involved in protein malnutrition. Hepatocytes synthesize plasma proteins, including albumin. Due to inadequate protein, these cells do not produce adequate albumin. Therefore, oncotic pressure in the blood vessels decreases, leading to edema (Grüngreiff et al., 2021). Another characteristic that would change the response is gender influence. The female elderly patient may have low levels of estrogen that would cause hormonal imbalance. Therefore, there would be a decrease in muscle mass and protein synthesis, a possible cause of protein malnutrition. The patient’s progesterone levels may also fluctuate due to menopause, leading to poor nutrient intake and loss of appetite. These gender-based factors may cause protein malnutrition.

Nursing ASSIGNMENT

To Prepare:

· Review the Resources and reflect on the impact of clinical systems on outcomes and efficiencies within the context of nursing practice and healthcare delivery.

· Conduct a search for recent (within the last 5 years) research focused on the application of clinical systems. The research should provide evidence to support the use of one type of clinical system to improve outcomes and/or efficiencies, such as “the use of personal health records or portals to support patients newly diagnosed with diabetes.”

· Identify and select 4 peer-reviewed research articles from your research.

· For information about annotated bibliographies, visit

https://academicguides.waldenu.edu/writingcenter/assignments/annotatedbibliographiesLinks to an external site.

The Assignment: (4-5 pages not including the title and reference page)

In a 4- to 5-page paper, synthesize the peer-reviewed research you reviewed. Format your Assignment as an Annotated Bibliography. Be sure to address the following:

· Identify the 4 peer-reviewed research articles you reviewed, citing each in APA format.

· Include an introduction explaining the purpose of the paper.

· Summarize each study, explaining the improvement to outcomes, efficiencies, and lessons learned from the application of the clinical system each peer-reviewed article described. Be specific and provide examples.

· In your conclusion, synthesize the findings from the 4 peer-reviewed research articles.

· Use APA format and include a title page.

· Use the Safe Assign Drafts to check your match percentage before submitting your work.

Reproduction

Discuss what is happening on a cellular level with the disease process. Be careful to realize that patients have co-morbidities and you may need to discuss the other diseases impact on the pathophysiology and care of the patient.  Three (3) resources after 2008 are required along with APA format.

Reproductive Case Study

Case Presentation:

An 20y.o., sexually active, college student has been experiencing dysuria for the last couple of days. At one point he noticed that a small amount of yellowish discharge from the tip of his penis. He is in a relationship with his first sexual partner for about 5 months. He has not experienced any similar incidents in this time frame and wonders if his partner has been monogamous. He made an appointment at the school clinic to seek care. He has provided a urine specimen for evaluation.

Physical Exam:

T, 100.6; HR 82, R 18, Bp 120/76.

Yellow discharge noted on penile area

Low back pain

Unilateral left painful, swollen scrotum

Culture was also done to identify the organism

Questioning occurred related to his sexual partners.

Test results came back positive for chlamydia.

Questions:

1. Originally considered a virus, Chlamydia is now recognized as a bacteria. Why is this so?

2. Chlamydial organisms are obligate non-motile intracellular parasites associated with many sexually transmitted diseases. Why?

3. Why can this virus remain latent or subclinical for years before it is diagnosed?

4. What are the treatment options for this patient? Note where you found the evidence to support this treatment.

5. Why did the medical professionals ask him about his sexual partners?

6. If untreated, what complications could occur to his sexual partner?

7. What education is needed for this patient to prevent this from occurring again?

.

Theoretical question

Please see the attachment to answer the question. I added the initial post. the questions is based on the initial post, that was not completed. Thank you!
