Gastrointestinal

Discuss what is happening on a cellular level with the disease process. Be careful to realize that patients have co-morbidities and you may need to discuss the other diseases impact on the pathophysiology and care of the patient.  Three (3) resources after 2008 are required along with APA format.

Critical Thinking Questions:

1. Briefly explain the pathophysiology of the development of GI tract bleeding. What is the etiology associated with acute GI tract bleeding?

2. Identify common causes of GI tract bleeding and list predisposing factors specific to Maria.

3. Discriminate between the characteristics of upper and lower GI tract bleeding.

4. What complications did Maria experience?

5. Which factors determine whether blood products will be administered to a patient with GI tract bleeding?

6. Maria Hgb and Hct values dropped. Discuss the drop in Hgb and Hct values in relation to Maria blood loss.

7. If Maria continues to have active bleeding from the GI tract despite conservative management, what other medical procedures might be implement and why?

Resources from presentation

Citing scholarly resources in your work is required throughout your program. This week, you will support your organizational ethics presentation using at least two sources. Share your chosen topic and the key words and search strategies you used with your peers so that you can review each other’s work and provide peer-to-peer feedback. Also, describe what you think are the most important search features when narrowing down topics in the databases and why.

Response 1

PLEASE RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING IN 50 WORDS OR MORE:

My thoughts and concepts of trends in nursing have changed in different areas of nursing. I have learned that organizations such as the ANA are active in making changes for nurses and that nurses can also advocate and join the ANA.  I have also learned about new trends in nursing such as the demand for nurses to get their DNP, and how the mental health of health care workers will be a priority. With the many issues we face in nursing, I have learned that we can also speak to local legislative offices by sending letters, face-to-face appointments, and phone calls. The safe-patient ratio is still an issue that nurses are facing but I have learned that there are ways to battle that such as speaking to team leaders and also learning about the rules and regulations about staffing.  I think a  nurse-driven staffing committee that develops staffing plans that take the needs of the patient population into account and complement the knowledge and expertise of the staff should be required in hospitals. The American Nurses Association is in favor of laws and regulations at the state and federal levels that permit flexible nurse staffing plans and provide nurses the authority to design staffing plans that are unique to each unit. Direct care nurses are well-suited to contribute to the creation of staffing plans since optimal staffing is much more than just a matter of numbers.

In a Word document, develop your own career mapping concept map (which highlights your own stages of progression). Your concept map should include and identify future stages of your nursing career progression, as well.

Be sure to address the following in your concept map:

  • Educational status
  • Training
  • Experience present and future
  • Work setting
  • Nursing level of practice
  • Associations
  • Certifications
  • Community activities

Case Study: A 25-year-old presented to the labor and delivery unit with complaints of uterine cramping and lower back pain. The client denied any vaginal bleeding and had a history of preterm birth at 32 weeks (about 7 and a half months) gestation with her last pregnancy. The baby from that pregnancy is three years old has no developmental issues. The client’s gestational age is 30 weeks (about 7 months). She is O+, and all other lab values are normal. No evidence of sexually transmitted infections (STI’s).

(Group Beta Strep is missing from the labs and most often is obtained at 35 – 37 weeks (about 8 and a half months) gestation. Without this information, it is often determined to treat the patient anyway, to protect a premature baby from the risk.)

  • What additional information should the nurse obtain from the client?
  • What nursing intervention is most appropriate in this situation?
  • What screening tests should be obtained to determine the risk for preterm labor?
  • If the client is in preterm labor, what medications would the nurse expect to be ordered, and what are the priorities for the nurse to assess post-administration? (Include dose, side effects and expected outcomes of the medication).

You are a Training Specialist hired by Universal Medical Supplies, Inc. This organization has been experiencing low productivity and errors in communication in the workplace. As part of an ongoing professional development series, the Vice President of the Human Resources department has tasked you with creating Critical Thinking training materials. The materials will be presented in many forms and by various means to help improve productivity and communication in the organization.

As part of the company’s training plan, they want to provide articles for the staff on the company’s intranet as required reading prior to other training activities. You will create one of those articles in the form of a blog post. It should provide an overview and give concrete examples of logical fallacies being used in the news and social media.

Instructions

Use online resources to create a blog post that illustrates how logical fallacies and audience manipulation appear in the news and social media. Social media may include sites like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others.

Your blog post should be a minimum of 5 paragraphs that includes the following elements:

· An introduction to the topic of logical fallacies.

· 2 examples of audience manipulation in the
news with a clickable link to the articles inserted in the blog post. Explain each fallacy example and how it is being used to manipulate the audience.

· 2 examples of audience manipulation in
social media. Explain each fallacy example and how it is being used to manipulate the audience. The two examples can be from the same or different social media sites. Example: One from Facebook and one from Twitter. Insert a screenshot image of each social media post.

· A summarizing paragraph.

· References with links to your sources.

Write your blog post in a Word document. Be sure to proofread for grammar and spelling.

EVIDENCE BASE IN DESIGN

When politics and medical science intersect, there can be much debate. Sometimes anecdotes or hearsay are misused as evidence to support a particular point. Despite these and other challenges, however, evidence-based approaches are increasingly used to inform health policy decision-making regarding causes of disease, intervention strategies, and issues impacting society. One example is the introduction of childhood vaccinations and the use of evidence-based arguments surrounding their safety.

In this Discussion, you will identify a recently proposed health policy and share your analysis of the evidence in support of this policy.
