 Resources

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on your thinking regarding the role of the nurse in the design and implementation of new healthcare programs.
  • Select a healthcare program within your practice and consider the design and implementation of this program.
  • Reflect on advocacy efforts and the role of the nurse in relation to healthcare program design and implementation.
  • Tell us about a healthcare program, within your practice. What are the costs and projected outcomes of this program?
  • Who is your target population?
  • What is the role of the nurse in providing input for the design of this healthcare program? Can you provide examples?
  • What is your role as an advocate for your target population for this healthcare program? Do you have input into design decisions? How else do you impact design?
  • What is the role of the nurse in healthcare program implementation? How does this role vary between design and implementation of healthcare programs? Can you provide examples?
  • Who are the members of a healthcare team that you believe are most needed to implement a program? Can you explain why?

Reflection # 7

Often, after a class is done for the week, we drop it and move on. The goal of reflection assignments is to encourage you to reflect on what we did in class that week, after the class to consolidate your learning. There will be specific prompts for you to answer; sometimes this is a reflective assignment, and other times it is more of an application assignment (e.g., given a case example and having to apply something from class). The hope is that this will help you to use what you have learned to ensure concepts “stick” or to think critically about your response to what was learned.

Task

Respond to the following prompt and upload your Word document. It should be 1-2 pages and will be due
11:59 p.m. Friday.

Module 6 Reflection

Please watch the brief (3 minute) news clip

Facing Down the Fears of the I-35W Bridge CollapseLinks to an external site.
mentioned during Dr. Hertig's TF-CBT presentation (if interested [
not required], there is also this

on the same story). After watching the clip and reflecting on course materials for this week, please answer the following questions:

1. What are some factors that may have maintained Saiku's PTSD symptoms?

2. How do you think this trauma (and subsequent symptoms) impacted this child's beliefs about himself, other people, or the world in general?

3. Based on the clip, what are some of the TF-CBT strategies Saiku's therapist, Dr. Hong, used to support his recovery? See slide 55 of Dr.Hertig's lecture materials if you need a reminder of TF-CBT treatment components.

4. How did Dr. Hong make the client comfortable in the process of facing his fears?

Grading Criteria

I'm really not looking to take off points for the reflection assignments. I don't have specific rubrics for them, but if you do not seem to be engaging with the prompt or answering the questions, I may take off points. Each reflection assignment is worth
5 points.

Discuss what is happening on a cellular level with the disease process. Be careful to realize that patients have co-morbidities and you may need to discuss the other diseases impact on the pathophysiology and care of the patient.  Three (3) resources after 2008 are required along with APA format.

1. Briefly explain the pathophysiology of the development of GI tract bleeding. What is the etiology associated with acute GI tract bleeding?

2. Identify common causes of GI tract bleeding and list predisposing factors specific to Maria.

3. Discriminate between the characteristics of upper and lower GI tract bleeding.

4. What complications did Maria experience?

5. Which factors determine whether blood products will be administered to a patient with GI tract bleeding?

6. Maria Hgb and Hct values dropped. Discuss the drop in Hgb and Hct values in relation to Maria blood loss.

7. If Maria continues to have active bleeding from the GI tract despite conservative management, what other medical procedures might be implement and why?

Resources from presentation

Citing scholarly resources in your work is required throughout your program. This week, you will support your organizational ethics presentation using at least two sources. Share your chosen topic and the key words and search strategies you used with your peers so that you can review each other’s work and provide peer-to-peer feedback. Also, describe what you think are the most important search features when narrowing down topics in the databases and why.

Response 1

PLEASE RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING IN 50 WORDS OR MORE:

My thoughts and concepts of trends in nursing have changed in different areas of nursing. I have learned that organizations such as the ANA are active in making changes for nurses and that nurses can also advocate and join the ANA.  I have also learned about new trends in nursing such as the demand for nurses to get their DNP, and how the mental health of health care workers will be a priority. With the many issues we face in nursing, I have learned that we can also speak to local legislative offices by sending letters, face-to-face appointments, and phone calls. The safe-patient ratio is still an issue that nurses are facing but I have learned that there are ways to battle that such as speaking to team leaders and also learning about the rules and regulations about staffing.  I think a  nurse-driven staffing committee that develops staffing plans that take the needs of the patient population into account and complement the knowledge and expertise of the staff should be required in hospitals. The American Nurses Association is in favor of laws and regulations at the state and federal levels that permit flexible nurse staffing plans and provide nurses the authority to design staffing plans that are unique to each unit. Direct care nurses are well-suited to contribute to the creation of staffing plans since optimal staffing is much more than just a matter of numbers.
