The student must answer the graded discussion with a substantive reply to the graded discussion question(s)/topic(s) posted by the course instructor by Thursday, 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Two scholarly sources references are required unless stated otherwise by your professor.

The student provides a substantive response to the discussion question or topic on Thursday day and posts a minimum of two additional responses to peers on another day(s). The answers to classmates must be posted by Sunday, 11:59 pm Eastern Time. We expect each student to participate in the discussion board in a respectful manner.

Remember that a new discussion rubric was approved by the professors, committee members, and a majority of the students. Please review the rubric before posting to ensure a maximum of points.

Here are the categories of the new discussion rubric:

Initial Post relevance to the topic of discussion, applicability, and insight. (20%)

Quality of Written Communication Appropriateness of audience and words choice is specific, purposeful, dynamic, and varied. Grammar, spelling, punctuation. (20%)

Inclusion of APNA standards essentials explored in the discussion as well as the role-specific competencies as applicable.(10%)

Rigor, currency,  and relevance of the scholarly references. (Use articles that are below 5 years). (20%)

module 5

Jackie is a 31-year-old pregnant patient (2nd child, two different fathers) single mother of a 6-year-old who is coming for prenatal care since she suspects she is pregnant. She is no longer with the father of Robby, her firstborn. She indicates “pretty serious partying” with the likely father of the baby. By pretty serious partying she means 10-12 drinks per occasion, one to two times per week, plus intermittent methamphetamine use.Which clinical information would be most critical for you to collect in the first visit? What are the greatest risk factors for substance use disorder for this patient?Which harm reduction strategies would you recommend?Identify your city. Then refer this patient to three agencies near you that would support positive health outcomes for this patient.   (These agencies must not have been used in past discussion posts). What was your rationale for choosing these three agencies?

Different-Speak: Gender and Culture-2

To discuss your communication plan, you want to hold the most productive meeting possible. You know that, in general, women look for equality among other team members when speaking. Men tend to interrupt and speak more frequently during meetings, taking up more time and space. There are many communication differences between men and women. Because your staff includes 6 men and 6 women, gender communication differences are important. With your colleagues, discuss ways to ensure that everyone at the meeting has the opportunity to fully communicate their ideas. Discuss the following:

  • 1 nonverbal difference between males and females
  • 1 verbal difference between males and females.
  • How and why you can use this knowledge to communicate to the female and male audiences in the organization that you selected

SEARCHING DATABASES

SEARCHING DATABASES

When you decide to purchase a new car, you first decide what is important to you. If mileage and dependability are the important factors, you will search for data focused more on these factors and less on color options and sound systems.

The same holds true when searching for research evidence to guide your clinical inquiry and professional decisions. Developing a formula for an answerable, researchable question that addresses your need will make the search process much more effective. One such formula is the PICO(T) format.

In this Discussion, you will transform a clinical inquiry into a searchable question in PICO(T) format, so you can search the electronic databases more effectively and efficiently. You will share this PICO(T) question and examine strategies you might use to increase the rigor and effectiveness of a database search on your PICO(T) question.

To Prepare:

· Review the Resources and identify a clinical issue of interest that can form the basis of a clinical inquiry.

· Review the materials offering guidance on using databases, performing keyword searches, and developing PICO(T) questions provided in the Resources.

· Based on the clinical issue of interest and using keywords related to the clinical issue of interest, search at least two different databases in the Walden Library to identify at least four relevant peer-reviewed articles related to your clinical issue of interest. You should not be using systematic reviews for this assignment, select original research articles.

· Review the Resources for guidance and develop a PICO(T) question of interest to you for further study. It is suggested that an Intervention-type PICOT question be developed as these seem to work best for this course.

*Library tip

Walden Library recommends starting your search
broadly with one concept or search word and adding more elements one at a time. Depending on your topic, the evidence will not necessarily address
all the aspects of your PICO(T) question in one article. Select the most important concepts to search and find the best evidence available, even if that means assembling evidence from multiple articles.

Post a brief description of your clinical issue of interest. This clinical issue will remain the same for the entire course and will be the basis for the development of your PICOT question. Describe your search results in terms of the number of articles returned on original research and how this changed as you added search terms using your Boolean operators. Finally, explain strategies you might make to increase the rigor and effectiveness of a database search on your PICO(T) question. Be specific and provide examples.
