As a human resource leader, I must make sure I am looking out for the team and the brand that we represent. One cannot represent the team and the company separately. As the HR representative at a Haverty’s location, I must ensure the well-being of my coworkers. We must hire individuals who are team players, as well as those who will represent the brand. I also o must show no biases when hiring, thus making the work environment a diverse and fulfilling work environment. I have to be able to make decision on hiring and firing indivuals based on the company needs in the present and future.

2. Differences in leadership and management are that mangers manage the front lines and leaderships works with the politics of the company. Managers make sure the employees are doing their part in making the company successful. While leadership handles the budgets, public affairs, and longevity of the company.

3. When approaching people and other organizations, we must consider their needs and desires. We want to help them while helping ourselves. If it does not benefit the company morally and financially, then we may not need to do business with them. We also have to look within our company for ideas of organizations and what influences can and will affect the company. Our employees play a part in our consumer base, as they may tell their family members the pro and cons of the company. Realistically, the public opinion comes from employees of these companies and organizations. We can also do public surveys on what the community needs and how we can be of assistance in any way.

4. My advice on being an effective leader is keeping in mind what job you have to do. The brand/company, and those people (employees) who can help make this happen. The over4all longevity of the company is a goal. Without a job we would not be here. And without the team of reliable and proficient employees, a company is not successful.

5. A theory that leadership can utilize is the Contingency Theory. This theory expresses there is not a set of specific leadership styles. There are different variables within the work environment that call for certain leadership values. It is founded on the principle that no one leadership style is applicable to all situations. Renowned leadership researchers Hodgson and White believe that the best form of leadership is one that finds the perfect balance between behaviors, needs, and context. Good leaders not only possess the right qualities but they’re also able to evaluate the needs of their followers and the situation at hand. In summary, the contingency theory suggests that great leadership is a combination of many key variables. (I GOOGLED THIS) https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/resources/careers/soft-skills/leadership-theories/

6. My own personal theory is making sure you have a healthy and reliable work environment. Remember you cannot cater to everyone’s needs; you are not here to babysit. This is a job and you must be professionally and responsible. While we need to ensure the longevity of our workers, they must understand that this is a business. Secondly, we must be a barrier between the company and the employees, thus informing the company of the needs of the employees Ndits consumers and informing the employees of the expectations of the company.

Presentation

This week’s assignment contains an imaginary scenario in which you will demonstrate your knowledge of the concepts presented in this course.

Scenario:

Your friend, an 8th-grade earth science teacher at the local middle school, is organizing an Earth Day celebration for his students and their families. He knows you have recently been learning about environmental policies in this environmental science class and has asked you to be one of several guest speakers at the event. He would like you to explain to the students how scientific research and public awareness of an environmental issue led to an environmental policy or law. The goal is for the 8th-grade students to understand how people and communities (scientific community, government bodies, citizens of a country, etc.) can effect positive change for the environment.

Use the policy and issue you selected for your Wk 5 Discussion – Environmental Policies in Action.

Prepare a 3-to 4-minute video and/or audio recording, or a 1,050- to 1,750-word transcript of your presentation.

Address the following in your presentation:

  • Summarize the environmental issue. What are its causes? What are the effects on the environment and people? Consider multiple perspectives and locations, as applicable.
  • Explain how economics and/or personal lifestyle choices or behaviors are related to this issue.
  • Describe how individuals, communities, and/or governments have worked to address the issue.
  • Examine the impact of relevant legislation or initiatives. What are the benefits? Have there been any consequences?

Note: Remember your audience; the presentation needs to make sense and appeal to 13- and 14-year-old students.

Include at least 2 outside resources to support your conclusions.

  • Be sure to support your response with specific examples.
  • Use one resource from the CSU online library.

Evaluation as Part of a Disaster Management Plan

Established in 1970, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) is a nonprofit, non-governmental health arm of the National Academy of Sciences (chartered by President Lincoln in 1863) and has served as an unbiased advisor to the nation on health care improvement. The IOM has a key role to play in helping to shape the direction of health care in the United States and abroad and works to enhance quality and add value to the health care system. Their seminal report from 2001, Crossing the Quality Chasm: A New Health Care System for the 21st Century, describes a strategy for improving health care overall.

Historically, heath care for mental health and substance-use conditions had a less developed quality measurement infrastructure than general medical practice. This characteristic was addressed in the 2006 report, Improving the Quality of Health Care for Mental and Substance-Use Conditions and recommendations were made for quality improvement, patient-centered services, strengthening evidence-base practices, and care coordination.

To prepare for this Discussion:

  • Review the Summary and the summaries for Chapters 3, 4, and 5 in the ebook, Improving the Quality of Health Care for Mental and Substance-Use Conditions, focusing on the importance of evaluation and reevaluation of plans.
  • Review Chapter 17 in your course text, Crisis Intervention Strategies, focusing on systems overviews and the Principles of a Crisis Intervention Ecosystem and then consider the value of ongoing plan evaluation.
  • Review the Appendix and Chapters 5 and 9 in your course text, Crisis Management in the New Strategy Landscape, focusing on the components of an effective crisis management plan and organizational learning.
  • Review the article, “Program Evaluation: The Accountability Bridge Model for Counselors.” Consider the importance of developing effective counseling evaluation programs and the importance of accountability for counselors.
  • Review the article, “Violence Prevention After Columbine: A Survey of High School Mental Health Professionals.” Consider how research and program evaluation can improve the effectiveness of counseling.
  • Review the article, “Collaborative Consultation and Program Evaluation,” focusing on how effective program evaluation can inform and improve counselor education and leadership.
  • Review the “Six-Aims of Health Care Systems” at http://books.nap.edu/openbook.php?record_id=11470&page=8 and consider how adherence to these guidelines should be kept in mind as you develop and evaluate crisis management plans.
  • Review the article, “Five Years After Katrina: Progress Report on Recovery, Rebuilding, and Renewal” or use a search engine to find another disaster recovery plan. Think about areas that still need improvement. Be sure to include resources if a different recovery plan is used.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 4 a brief justification for three components of the Six Aims of High-Quality Health Care that you think are most important when evaluating a crisis management plan. Then provide a brief analysis of the “Five Years After Katrina: Progress Report on Recovery, Rebuilding, and Renewal ” recovery plan or the plan you chose, and explain insights you gained.

Note: Please include the three components you chose in the first line of your post. You will be asked to respond to a colleague who chose at least two different components.
